DEBIT CARD CHANGES: Opt-In Explained
In September our debit card program will be upgrading. All debit card holders have been notified by mail, but we want to clarify some of the changes. The debit card program will become an online program. That means:
  • Your debit card transactions will update your account immediately.
  • Total daily limit maximum is now $2,000, of which $500 can be ATM transactions and $1500 point-of-sale transactions.
  • Your debit card transaction will be accepted or rejected at the point of purchase or use.
  • Savings accounts are no longer a player on debit card transactions. However, we will continue to transfer money from savings to cover overdrafts on checks written. If you know you are going to be using your debit card for more than you have in your checking, anticipate. Call and have the money transferred from your savings or do it online through HFS.
What is Opt-In?
As a courtesy to our members, if you agree to the Opt-In service, your credit union will allow you to overdraw (up to a predetermined amount) above your checking and overdraft protection balances.

Is there a charge for Opt-In?
Only if you use it. If you use the Opt-In service, then you will be charged the standard overdraft fee of $25.00.

If I use Opt-In, will it affect my credit rating?
No. Opt-In will be charged and treated like an overdraft, but it won't affect your credit rating unless you overuse it.

Do I have to have Overdraft Protection to use the Opt-In feature?
No. You do not need to have overdraft protection.

Please call one of our offices if you have more questions. If it's confusing to you, imagine what it's like for us trying to decipher all the legalities.
