Credit Cards
By going through your Credit Union, you can have a Visa Credit Card that
offers lower rates and fees and that means your Credit Union Visa card costs
less every time you use it. There are no annual fees and no transaction fees for purchases. Interest is
computed on the average daily balance, including new purchases. Check
your Visa credit card transactions online.
It's often confusing because there are so many credit card offers out there, but the Visa card offered by your Credit Union has the reliability that you've come to expect. The annual percentage rate (APR) varies. The rate will be prime plus 12% APR. Prime is the prime rate listed in the rates section of The Wall Street Journal "Money Rates" table on the third Monday of each month prior to the month in which the billing date occurs. If you'd like to apply for a Visa credit or debit card with no annual fees and lower rates, just send in your Visa loan application to the Co-op Credit Union. Normal lending guidelines apply.

The Visa Gift Card is a prepaid card that can be used anywhere that Visa debit cards are accepted, including in-store, online and by phone. They can be purchased at any of our Credit Union offices. The cost per card is $2.50. They are sold in even dollar amounts from $10 to $500. The card is activated by the Credit Union at the time of purchase and there is no PIN. You use it as you would a credit card. A gift card can be used 24 hours after it has been sold and activated. The card itself is non-reloadable, but you can always purchase another.
Traveling? Don't get your Visa card declined LIST BOTH YOUR HOME AND CELL NUMBERS FOR YOUR VISA CARDS It's very important to keep your address and telephone numbers current with your credit union. Visa uses the latest software programs to continuously monitor their network for disruptions in typical spending patterns. By doing this they can identify and respond to fraudulent activity immediately. As they monitor the accounts, should any suspicious activity show up, a Visa representative will try to call you to verify the transaction. If they cannot reach you, they will leave a message to call them back. In the meantime, they will restrict the card to prevent any more activity in case it's fraudulent. You won't be able to use your card until you make contact with Visa. These procedures can be inconvenient, but they are in place to protect you.
For example, you're traveling and you try to use your card at an ATM or make a point-of-sale purchase in another state. The Visa network flags this as unusual activity for your account and one of their customer service representatives makes a call to you to verify the transaction. You're not home, so they leave a message to return their call. You won't be home for several days so you don't get the message and you cannot use your card. If you had your current cell phone number listed, they would try that number, you could verify your account, get your money and be on your way.
It's always important to keep your personal information updated with the Credit Union, but if you have a debit or credit card, it's even more crucial. Always make sure your Co-op Credit Union has any address or telephone changes. And always notify us when you're traveling so we can let the Visa people know. |
